A Nine-Level Diode Clamped Multilevel Inverter Integrated with Resonant Switched Capacitor Converter Circuit

Abstract

Multilevel inverters are primarily used to lower the necessary voltage rating of power semiconductor switching devices in high power and medium voltage applications. But, because they can effectively achieve reduced harmonics with lower switching frequency and lower electromagnetic interference (EMI), these multilevel inverters are appealing for a variety of applications, regardless of power ratings. A lot of research is being done on multilayer inverters with more levels that are appropriate for circuit integration in this situation. The Diode-clamped multilevel inverter (DCMLI) with resonant switched capacitor converter (RSCC) based voltage balancing to a nine-level output configuration. The RSCC enables both capacitor voltage balancing and output voltage boosting without increasing the input DC supply voltage. A flexible input connection strategy enables a range of boost ratios, and computer simulations verify high-quality output voltage and current waveforms. The design implications of increased RSCC current with higher boost ratios are also discussed.
