In modern industrial and smart infrastructure environments, accurate and automated distance measurement plays a critical role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and real-time monitoring. This paper presents a reliable, low-cost IoT-based distance measurement system utilizing the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor interfaced with the Rugged Board A5D2X. The system measures the distance of nearby objects by calculating the time delay of ultrasonic waves and displays the results on an LCD panel via I²C communication. The measured data is then transmitted to the Things Board cloud platform via Ethernet, enabling continuous remote monitoring and real-time data logging. Unlike traditional manual tools or microcontrollers lacking industrial-grade reliability, this implementation provides enhanced accuracy, long-term deployment capability, and cloud-based visualization. The proposed setup is ideal for applications in smart parking, obstacle detection, robotics, and industrial safety zones. This work highlights the seamless integration of embedded hardware with cloud services for scalable and intelligent monitoring solutions.
